Janice Baldwin, a local Keller Williams Realtor, visited our center to take a tour and give us the bears. We are so appreciative of our supportive community! Going Green

In an effort to be the most environmentally sustainable we can, A Child's Voice is in the process of working with The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and Grants to Green to reduce water and electricity usage in our building. Not only does this allow us to be more green, it also allows us to re-allocate funds that would be used to pay for utilities into direct services. This means we can see more children for forensic interviews and forensic medical examinations. For more information on Grants to Green, visit their website here.

We went through an assessment process to determine ways to reduce our energy output. Some things we are aiming to achieve based on this assessment include:
  • installing LED lighting that utilizes motion sensors to dim and/or turn off when rooms are empty
  • removing loose insulation in the attic and replacing it with foam insulation with a thermal barrier
  • repairing a window, installing solar film to reduce glare, and weather stripping exterior doors to prevent air leakage
  • purchasing a new, Energy Star certified refrigerator and removing the water fountain to reduce plug loads
  • utilizing web-based smart thermostats

We are excited for this opportunity and can't wait to be more environmentally sustainable with help from Grants to Green!

A Child's Voice Child Advocacy Center works to provide a comprehensive, coordinated response to child abuse with the goal of reducing its occurrence and its impact on children.

216 Brookstone Place, Social Circle, GA 30025
770-464-0082
Executive Director: Nancy Burgess, MSW

Thank you for supporting A Child's Voice this year.

It has been quite a year for A Child's Voice Child Advocacy Center! We have seen a record number of children, expanded our services to better serve all children, received state re-accreditation, prepared for our upcoming national re-accreditation and are continuing our work to counteract the stigma and prevent child abuse in our communities. All of this could not have been done without the generous support from you- our donors, contributors and supporters. THANK YOU.

Services
(Year-to-date)

Referrals Received:   226
Forensic Interviews:   201
Medical Exams:   94

Upon completion of a new training, our forensic interviewers are now able to offer multi-session interviews, which better serve very young children or children with developmental and/or special language needs. This allows our interviewers to get to know the children's functioning more completely to ensure the interview fits the children's needs and development. You can read more about multi-session interview protocol here.

We have continued our partnership with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to offer forensic medical examinations through telemedicine which allows our nurse to physically see patients while CHOA experts monitor and assist. You can read more about telemedicine here.
Accreditation
We completed our state Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia (CACGA) re-accreditation this year. We received full accreditation with no deficiencies and are excited to continue working alongside the other centers in Georgia to investigate, treat and prevent child abuse.

In October, we sent in our National Children's Alliance (NCA) accreditation materials and will have NCA come for a site visit in March as we work towards national re-accreditation.

Community Outreach
In our efforts to prevent child abuse, we have continued to build partnerships with community members, law enforcement, DFCS and other child abuse committee members.
We have done this through:
  • facilitating the training of all Law Enforcement officers by the District Attorney's office
  • participating in community health fairs and events
  • conducting Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children child abuse prevention and awareness training with adults in the community who work with children

We wish all of you very Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. Thank you so much for your support. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we rely on people like you. If you wish to make a tax-deductible donation, you may do so via USPS mail or by visiting our website to securely donate through PayPal.
Thank you!

We had to add some exciting new to our News and Events! I am in love with the Braves and baseball itself, so when baseball season came around in the Spring I started looking for a way to have our baseball teams help us out! The Gwinnett Braves have a wonderful community program that helps out soooo many great charities! I jumped at the chance to partner with them for a season! Well, when almost an entire season of baseball passed by I started to think "maybe next year" and then the wonderful and happy Ali Atkins from The Gwinnett Braves gave us a call to let us know we have been selected as the Charity of the Month! (Each month supports a different cause and we were selected for the month of September which supports child focused non-profits) Ms. Atkins so kindly drove out to see our center and present a check and gave us a little more information on how the Gwinnett Braves support their local community! Sweetest woman ever! We would like to say thank you to the Gwinnett Braves and Ali for supporting our center!

We look forward to announcing more great news with the wonderful people who help support our mission!

Ways You Can Support Us!!!!

WELL!!!!

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Rite Aid and are now an official KidCents charity! KidCents is a program created by The Rite Aid Foundation that allows Rite Aid customers to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar and donate their change to help support kid-focused charities.

A Child’s Voice Child Advocacy Center will now be listed as an official KidCents charity on kidcents.com. Through KidCents, Rite Aid customers can visit www.kidcents.com , elect to round up their Rite Aid purchases, and donate their change to an official KidCents charity, which now includes us!

Here’s what you can do to support A Child’s Voice Child Advocacy Center with your KidCents round-up donations when you shop at Rite Aid:

  • Visit www.kidcents.com and follow the steps online to become a Rite Aid wellness+ member (join for free) and enroll in the KidCents program.
  • After you join wellness+ (or if you are already a wellness+ member), login on www.kidcents.com and click “Select a Charity” on the website menu.
  • Here you can search for A Child’s Voice Child Advocacy Center in the list of official KidCents charities (add in link).
·         When you find A Child’s Voice Child Advocacy Center click on the “Select this Charity” button so that your KidCents round-up change will be designated to A Child’s Voice Child Advocacy Center.

  • Now the next time you shop at Rite Aid, your change will be rounded up to A Child’s Voice CAC!
  •
This means that YOU have the ability to help us reach our goals by simply shopping at Rite Aid and rounding up your purchases for our organization, as well as asking your friends and family to participate in the program. Imagine the change that your change can make!

We are looking forward to our partnership with The Rite Aid Foundation and excited by the opportunities that KidCents brings to our organization and those we help. Thank you for your support!

In addition to Kidcents, we also have the same type partnership with Kroger and Amazon, for more information on how to sign up with them please let me know! I would be happy to help!

Sincerely,
Katie

Everything Fall

It's that time of year, fall....... get your boots and plaid out and make sure to carry around a pumpkin spiced something today!

SO, this is Kip and his father Brent. Brent is on officer we have had the pleasure of working with before! His wife, Andria, was also here to help and has volunteered to help us out in the past as well! BUT this is about Kip!

Kip is 4 years old and has a heart of gold! Kip spent his own money buying games and snacks for the children at our center. The kids sometimes spend up to 4 hours with us at a time! We like to provide snacks and have plenty of fun things for them to do while they are with us. Kip and his parents split the cost of everything they brought us. We are so proud of him and thankful for him and his parents setting a good example for our community. Thank you Kip, Andria and Brent for your support!

OK.....

Back to pumpkin spice!! I found these pumpkin spice latte cupcakes to share with friends and family for the next football game this weekend. They look delightful! Just Thought I would throw something sweet out for you to try!

                                                                  for the recipe click here!

Please read our resources page and if you suspect anything do the right thing and call! You never know what is going on behind closed doors, a child who may be needing your help, may never say anything to anyone. About a third of child abuse cases are reported. Yikes, we have to do more to help these kiddos!

Hello friends!

My name is Katie, I will be doing most of the blogging here for A Child's Voice. I have never blogged before but here we go! I will be providing news about festivals, the community, schools, kids, whatever seems relevant to providing information about the CAC and
our community we live in.

Come join us October 4th 2014 at 9am- 4pm for the Social Circle friendship Festival! We will have a tent set up with information on what we do, the Darkness2light class that our lovely forensic interview specialist, Lindsey, teaches, and volunteer information for anyone looking to help out in the community they live in. More information will be provided about the festival later, but I can tell you last year was fun! There were some  great local bands playing and lots of face painting and hair glittering!
We also got to pet some animals and there was plenty of snacks to go around. Also Lots of prizes to win from the different booths! Who doesn't love free stuff? So please come see us!

Also, Change the World day is coming up at First United Methodist Church in Covington on October 25th 2014.

We hope everyone has a safe weekend!
