Why therapy?
Therapy provides a safe space for kids and teens to share their feelings, talk about their experiences, and feel supported. In therapy, kids and teens learn coping skills and ways to regulate their emotions. They learn that it is okay to talk about what they have gone through and how to utilize healthier thinking patterns. Therapy gives kids and teens the confidence and courage to face stressful experiences and overcome avoidance.
If not treated in childhood, trauma can persist into adulthood and have adverse effects on mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. For more information about the potential effects of childhood trauma click here.

Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
The primary therapy model utilized at A Child's Voice is Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT is a therapeutic intervention designed to help children, adolescents, and their parents overcome the impact of traumatic events. TF-CBT is research based and widely held as the most effective treatment model for childhood trauma and more specifically trauma related to child sexual abuse.
